A pretty town of about 6000 people on the way between La Rochelle and Angouleme (road D939) and at the exit 34 of A10 Autoroute Paris - Bordeaux. It is situated at the right bank of the river Boutonne. It was an important town along the way of St. Jacques de Compostella. There are many buildings from XV century in the Old Town. Visit to taste and to buy: Cognac Louis Bouron Cognac Chabasse Boutiques de Saint-Jean It is also a home of the Nautic Club Angérien ( N.C.A.) waterpolo team that finished respectful 2nd in the 1996-97 regular season in France and qualified for the Coupe d'Europe. Great fun, great competition and worth stopping by.
