Condom is an old town. It has a population of about 9000. Many buildings that are still occupied in the center of town date back to XVI-XVII centuries.

Most notable chateaux in and around Condom are:

  • Château Cugnac is home to the Armagnac Ryst-Dupeyron production. A small museum, pleasant tasting and a chance to buy local specialities at this pretty place. It is located at 36 rue Jean Jaures in Condom. Phone: 05 62 28 08 08

  • Château de Beaumont

  • Château de Mons is in Caussens (about 8 km from Condom. It is an old residence of the Dukes of Montebello. Here you can taste and buy Armagnac, Floc de Gascogne and other local specialities. Phone: 05 62 68 30 30

  • Château de Cassaigne constructed in 1247 still produces Armagnac. You can visit, taste and purchase year around. It is located about 12 km from Condom. Phone: 05 62 28 04 02

  • Château Monlus, in nearby Saint Puy, you can taste many local drinks; Cocktail Pousse Rapière, Monluc wine and enjoy the place that dates back to X century. Phone: 05 62 28 94 00
  • Château de Larressingle was build by the Bishops of Condom in 1250. Today, the fifth generation of family Papelorey produces superb Larressingle Armagnac. It is a blend of the best Bas and Ténarèze Armagnacs. It is located 5 km from Condom. To visit call 05 62 28 37 02

  Main Armagnac houses based in Condom are:

Jean du Vignau where their famous Maître de Chais Armand Courrège creates unique Armagnacs. Visit, taste, talk with Maître and you will buy it. They are at 1 Quai Buzon. Phone: 05 62 28 15 44

Janneau one of the oldest Armagnac houses located on the other side of the river in Condom. Visit their large tasting room.

Among the many fortress towns (bastides) in this region, Larressingle and Montréal du Gers are real stand outs.

From April through October, take a cruise on the D'Artagnan boat from Condom to Valence on the river la Baïse. To reserve call Gascogne Navigation at 05 62 28 46 46.
